Updated info about acres planted and viticultural needs of Petite Sirah in the different world regions
Here’s the latest updated info about acres planted and viticultural needs of Petite Sirah in the different world regions… This one was prompted by an Email.
Dear Jo,
I was looking at your website and I wanted to know if you have updated information about the acres planted of Petite Sirah in the different regions of the world. The data that appear in your website is from 2007. In the case of Chile the SAG ( government statistics) numbers of 2011 are 188, 7 hectares planted that is 466 acres, very different from the number that appear in the website that is 24.
I will be very grateful if you can help me with this information.

After the initial Email, I was asked the following, and wrote back that I’d blog about it:
Do you have some information on where I can get information about the agronomic needs of the variety: Ideal climate, degree days, ideal soils, pest and illness resistancy and sensitivity. Size of clusters, weight of clusters or berries at harvest, number of berries per cluster.
I’m making a presentation of the variety for next Tuesday where I would like to include this data,
Best regards and many thanks again,
M. Cecilia
Good questions. Some of them are easy to answer, some of them need an expert, so I called in a PS grower to help.
