In loving memory of an Oregon legend…
Edward J. King, Jr., August 8, 1921 ~ June 3, 2012
Edward J. King Jr. was a true rags to riches story. From humble beginnings on a dust bowl era wheat farm in Jetmore, Kansas he went on to become an avionics magnate, and to co-found King Estate Winery with his son Ed King III and other family. His obituary is below. Friends and loved ones that would like to leave a comment for Ed Jr. and his family are encouraged to do so at the bottom of this post, below the gallery.
Thank you,
The King Family
I’ve been very honored to have the support of King Estate for the last two years as participants in the Oregon Pinot Gris Symposium. This Thursday, Jeff Kandarian ~ the Director of Winemaking ~ is a presenter at the Symposium. He’ll be discussing “Producing Oregon Pinot Gris of Exceptional Quality Through Impeccable Winemaking Practices and Judicious Blending,”
Also attending as part of the King Estate winemaking team is Ben Howe, who will join Jeff Kandarian. Much of Oregon Pinot Gris is defined by King Estate.
Patriarch Edward J. King, Jr. is going to be missed by those who knew him.

When I consider Pinot Gris
The wines of King Estate I see
Wines that age with grace and charm
There never was a nicer farm
For growing Pinot Gris
A fond farewell to founder Ed
Whose passing on this day we read
Thank you for wines of skill and care
For a vision of Pinot Gris I share
Thank you too for staying true
and making Pinot Gris that way too

Beautiful, Deborah…
