Rutherford Appellation Wineries

This one is near and dear to my heart… it’s that good!

Visitors are invited to enjoy a weekend of hearty fare with 18 award-winning Rutherford wineries by taking a wine tasting journey through Napa Valley’s famed Rutherford region. This event will be happening during their semi-annual Winter Passport Weekend on Saturday, December 3 and Sunday, December 4, 2011; from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Passport holders can experience the wineries of the Rutherford appellation with hearty winter foods paired with the amazing wines produced within the Rutherford Appellation. Each winter the Rutherford Dust Society is pleased to offer barrel tasting, providing consumers the opportunity to purchase future releases and try samples of what is yet to come.

The event highlights and celebrates the wineries of Rutherford, in the historic heart of Napa Valley. Each winery will feature its own unique wine and food pairing experience, aimed to teach visitors about Rutherford varieties, Napa Valley terroir, and how the wines pair with different, select food dishes.

Eighteen wineries are slated to host guests for this special two-day event, including many that are not normally open for public tastings. Certain wineries will also be offering special wine discounts to Passports holders. Participating wineries are Alpha Omega Winery, Beaulieu Vineyards, Chaix*, Elizabeth Spencer, Franciscan, Honig, J. Moss*, Lieff*, Meander*, Mumm Napa Valley, Pedemonte*, Peju Winery, Piña Napa Valley, Raymond, Sawyer Cellars, St. Supery, Tres Sabores, and Vice Versa Wines. (Wineries marked with an asterisk will be pouring at Rutherford Grange.)

Weekend passports are available for $75 per person for the weekend, or $60 per person for Sunday only. A limited number of passports are available to purchase online at www.rutherford-appellation-wineries.com, and will be available for pick-up on December 3rd and 4th, 2011 in Rutherford.

Proceeds from the winter Passport Weekend will be donated to a local Napa Valley charity. Since its inception, the Rutherford Appellation Wineries has donated more than $40,000 to local charities from Passport Weekend ticket sales, including the Rutherford Grange, Napa Crime Stoppers, the Rutherford River Restoration project, Queen of the Valley Community Outreach Service and the Rutherford Volunteer Fire Department.

Rutherford Passport Weekends are semi-annual events held the first weekends of May and December. To learn more about the Rutherford Appellation Wineries please visit www.rutherford-appellation-wineries.com.

I’ve attended a May Rutherford Dust event, and wouldn’t miss any events by this group, unless something comes up that’s out of my control… A must do!
