Beyond Green Beer and onto an Exclusiv Vodka Concoction of Decadence

Top ‘o the mornin’ to ya! I’m gearing up for St. Paddy’s Day. How about you?

Okay… I’m stepping away from green beer and even Irish made wines this St. Paddy’s day.

Below is a list of my favorite Irish vintners, so jump to that if you’re determined to only enjoy Irish-made wines this Thursday. I first focused on Irish wines on St. Paddy’s Day in 2003, when I began to work with Concannon Vineyard, so I really “get” it.

That said, I’m going to step off my usual green path this year, and head right into the spirits world, because I’ve got a good one for you.

When I was a kid, I was raised as a Catholic, but celebrated our holidays with Mogen David wines. (Talk about conflicted messages from my family.) Then, at the end of the meal, my mother would share one of her most decadent creations, vanilla ice cream drizzled with Creme de Menthe. The first time I had it, that green stuff seemed a bit strong. (I was having my first taste of alcohol, beyond my sips of wine.) It warmed my insides, while the cool ice cream chilled my palate… What an oxymoron, and oh what fun. My brother was later to learn that he could enjoy Creme de Menthe straight up. It took the bottle being drained to figure that one out. It hadn’t occurred to me; and I still love it as a blended concoction, which relates to this recipe below, when I was asked if I’d taste Exclusiv Vodka. I was game. When I was given this recipe, I became a player.

You, too, can impress your friends this St. Patrick’s Day by serving this delicious green cocktail:

  • 2 oz Exclusiv Vodka
  • 1/2 oz Creme de Cocoa
  • 1 oz Bailey’s Irish Cream
  • 1/2 oz green Creme de Menthe

Shake the first three ingredients, pour into a chilled martini glass, and then sink Green Creme de Menthe. Garnish with a mint leaf and chocolate shavings, and you’re off to the green Isles of Ireland.

Hot on the way down, creamy on the palate, and minty fresh… Bring on the Shamrock!

About Exclusiv Vodka:

From the gently rolling wheat fields of Moldova, near the shores of the Black Sea, comes an exciting new vodka steeped in Russian tradition, which began centuries ago. It’s a spirit so exclusive in taste that it was simply named Exclusiv. This luxurious tasting spirit is made with only highest quality winter wheat and the finest distilling process. This gives it a sweeter, more polished taste without polishing techniques. I agree with its company that Exclusiv Vodka is truly one of the best values on the market.

Exclusiv Vodka is clean, fresh, and crisp.

Described by the company as, “Clear, subtle, creamy mocha aromas and flavors with hints of dried cherries and spice and a long, delicate cream and powdered sugar fade. Very smooth, tasty, and appealing,” it’s a very affordable, upscale taste without the expensive price tag. In today’s economic climate, this vodka is perfectly poised for great recognition.

The package is very appealing, and that’s the first entry way, quite honestly. If I love it with my eye, my palate only wonders what will come next…. As in this St. Paddy’s Day Pat’s-Tini… Cheers!

Those Irish vintners… feel free to give me ones I’ve missed.
