Spend a day in wine country photographing sculpture. It’s all around us.

  1. One of the things that attracts me to wine country is, in fact, the opportunity to do things that go beyond wine and into other areas of artistic endeavor. ‘

Clos Pegase and Cornerstone, opposite Gloria Ferrer, south of Sonoma town, are two such places.

A big third on that list is the Paradise Ridge Winery in the hills northeast of Santa Rosa. Their sculpture collection is spread from vineyard to sculpture garden, and I have often ventured up there at the end of a long day of winery visits to rest my palate and engage my other senses.

And one of these days, I am going to wander back to the Heller Estate high in the hills above the Carmel Valley. The sculpture there is the work of owner, Toby Heller, a world famous sculptor. Her works are on display in the quaint tasting room, but they show best in the lovely hilltop vineyard in the remote eastern end of the Carmel Valley. If you are ever in the Carmel area, it is worth making an appointment and driving up there.

I didn’t know about Paradise Ridge, Charlie. Thanks for tip, Charlie. They’re just minutes from my house. I’m going to wait for a drier day, but Jose may venture there this afternoon.
