A Little Sibling Rivalry between Napa and Sonoma PS on October 8, 2010

I was asked to help with a tasting called, “Sibling Rivalry.” Here’s the info I initially got…

Hey Jo, I was referred to you by Alana Gentry [Girl with a Glass]! She said you might be able to help me out. My friend Becky and I run  an underground cult blind tasting called Sibling Rivalry! It’s a play on Napa VS Sonoma! We’re featuring Petite Sirah at our next event in October, and I was wondering if you would like to be involved? I would like to chat with you at your earliest convenience.

Well, yeah! Alana Gentry knew I’d be interested before I even did. (She’s attended the Petite Sirah Symposium, so she’s very clear on this little passion of mine.

“Tell me more” brought:

The event is at David Fulton Winery on October 8, 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.! I was wondering if we can work together to promote this event! You are more than welcome to invite your contacts! Call me so we can go over some details!

Totally works for me, because David Fulton Winery is a member of PS I Love You, the group I started and am the director of… eight years later. There’s not much I wouldn’t do, when my members are involved. I put the word out to the guys and got this within minutes.

  • Artezin
  • David Fulton (of course)
  • Stanton Vineyards

  • Foppiano
  • Miro
  • Pedroncelli

Only a bit more coaxing, and I’ll  nail it down… Meanwhile, know it’s going on, and see you there. I’ll be the one Twittering.

I was asked to be a wine judge, but I declined. I don’t/won’t judge my members, any more than I ever compared my three lovely daughters in any way as they grew, or even today. Each is a treasure… I feel the same way about the members.

I love me some Miro, don’t get me wrong, but Stanton and Fulton is a two-ton tag-team of an opponent!

    (pun fully intended)

The price points in this matchup, even normalized relative to average for Napa Reds vs. Sonoma Reds or Napa Petite vs. Sonoma Petite, are far from even, as well.

  2. Jo Diaz says:

    You’re so funny, Loweeel…

  3. Bootle Deck says:

    What vintage will you taste?

  4. Jo Diaz says:

It will no doubt be all over the place, as each vintner has different vintages available.

  5. Alana Gentry says:

Hey I just sent you a note about this! You should be a judge because you know your PS. It’s blind so there wouldn’t be any bad news, BUT I understand your position–I’d have to decline if I were you too.

They invited me to judge and because of my great experience at PSILOVEYOU, I agreed.

I also told the organizers it’s going to be a lot more interesting and tough than judging Chardonnay (the last one I participated in). PS is COMPLEX!

Really looking forward to seeing you again. Cheers~

  6. EJ says:

Who went and how was it?

  7. Jo Diaz says:

I got the results, and tucked them away. I’ll have to go digging to find this one. Since I didn’t organize it, I don’t know who attended. I was going to go, but something came up in my family, and I couldn’t make it.
