I had so much fun with my Reader Appreciation Day give away (I’m a Sagittarian, we’re know for being generous), that my plan for this season of giving is to offer one gift per week during this holiday month. There are so many things to celebrate this month and I have a gift to cover it all from my prize closet.
So, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa, Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year… It’s all covered.
Here’s the giveaway line-up:
- Week 1 (December 2 – December 4) Metal Imagination sculpture ($80.00) ~ WINNER: Roger Lee Paige
- Week 2 (December 7 – December 11) Another pair of the Masters of Petite Sirah Riedel Vinum glasses ($70.00)
- Week 3 (December 14 – 16) A small, two glass Riedel decanter ($50.00 ~ give or take a bit, I can’t find my invoice)
- Week 4 (December 21 – December 25) A pair of tickets to Dark & Delicious, next February 19, 2010 ($120.00)
- Week 5 (December 28 – January 1, 2010… Yes!) A dual membership as GrouPieS in the PSILY organization ($75.00)

Week 1 (December 2 – December 4): Metal Imagination wine gift: Check out the little Metal Imagination animated gif on the right hand side of this blog, for what they look like, if you don’t know. Also, you can click on this animation, and it will take you to the site to see which wine gift you’d like to choose. Once a winning name has been drawn for this prize, that person will just go to the Metal Imagination Web site and choose which sculpture you’d like to have. They’re really whimsical, and offer great decorating options. If it were mine, I’d be using it as a centerpiece on a table when serving great food and wine to my guests. They’re fun for conversation, on or off a table, guests or not. The limit on this prize is $80.00. Decide which sculpture you’d like to have, then I’ll arrange for you to place your order with my contact Sean. Metal Imagination will be mailing your prize directly to you. (It was offered to me, but I’ve decided to give it to someone on wine-blog. This is why I don’t have it here. We’ve decided to let you choose, because you may not have wanted the angel I originally picked out. I was thinking “Christmas,” when I chose the angel, you may be thinking “fisherman” for Uncle Harry.) Remember, this can be for you, or if you know someone with a special hobby depicted by one of these figures, choose that one as your own gift give-away for the holidays ahead. Once you’ve chosen, my friends at Metal Imaginations will ship your winning prize directly to you. You’ll definitely have it for the holidays.

Week 2 (December 7 – December 11): Another pair of the Masters of Petite Sirah Riedel Vinum glasses. Cheron (winner of my annual Reader Appreciation Day 2009) can now tell you how gorgeous they really are. And, so can Lowell Jacobson, he attended the Petite Sirah Symposium this past August. I gave a pair to him at the time. The pair have a combined total value of $70.00. They’re a limited edition (200 produced for that intimate event), and were carefully etched with an specially designed logo for that event. They’re rare and they’re gorgeous.

Week 3 (December 14 – 16): I’ve got a great little Riedel (two glass) decanter ($50.00) that everyone loves for aerating just a couple of glasses of wine, versus the entire bottle. If you’re a lover of young, big red wines, this decanter is a must have. It’s perfect for decanting two glasses of any big red, without your having to pour an entire bottle into a decanter. This decanter is something I’ve purchased through PS I Love You, so it’s coming from that organization’s generosity base.

Week 4 (December 21 – December 25): A pair of tickets to Dark & Delicious, February 19, 2010, valued at $120.00, also coming from PSILY ($60/each). If you can’t go, pass them along to someone who means a lot to you. If you can go, this is a three hour wining and dining of Petite Sirah and some of the most delicious food imaginable. Bay Area restaurants and caterers (about 30 of them) match their food to the 40 or so wineries who are Pouring their Petites. This event draws out many of the winery owners who are pleased to be pouring their own wines. (At $60 a ticket, food, wine, free parking, no gratuity, this is a must-attend event, if you’re local, or if you come from afar. We have people who fly in from all around the US; in this, its fourth annual season.)

Week 5 (December 28 – January 1, 2010): A dual membership as GrouPieS in the PSILY organization. The value for this is $75.00. What you’ll receive is membership for two. (By the way, If you don’t win this prize, you can still become a GrouPieS member. Visit the PSILY GrouPieS web site, and still receive all of the benefits of this drawing. It’s $50 for one, $75/couple):
- Two GrouPieS = two t-shirts (I’ll need your sizes).
- Attendance at the Annual Barbeque (it’s free to GrouPieS). Winemakers will pour their Petite for you and delicious foods will be yours for the enjoying).
- Annual prize drawing for one lucky person (Another set of Masters Glasses and will be chosen on December 31 of this year).
- Reduced ($40) tickets for Dark & Delicious, if you choose to not volunteer.
- If you choose to volunteer for D&D, only open to GrouPieS and our selected staff, you receive the following:
- You get in for free
- Enjoy an hour to taste food and wine
- Receive a staff D&D T-Shirt
- Get a six pack of Petite Sirah to take home

RULES FOR Wine-Blog December Gifts
US ship-to addresses, only, please.
Just place your name in the comment box at the end of this posting of Wine-Blog December Gifts.
You can post your name every day of that week for that prize, during that week’s contest: Tuesday through Friday for the first week, then all week long for the subsequent weeks. That’s Saturday through Friday, to increase your changes to win wine gifts. You can do this once a day for that particular week, because dedication might pay off…
I’ll give each submission a number, as the names are generated in the comment box. I’ll place each name and number in a hat, and have Jose draw out the lucky winner for that week. On each Saturday, the name of the winner will be revealed, and your item will then be shipped to you in a timely manner.
I think the gifts are really fun, and the contest begins now… Best of luck and Happy Holidaze!
“Cheron (winner of my annual Reader Appreciation Day 2009) can now tell you how gorgeous they really are. And, so can Lowell Jacobson…”
I haven’t opened the box yet – but I did receive the glasses yesterday. And I was even considering giving Lowell one of them since he’s such a good friend and was saying how he didn’t have them and wanted one. Liar, liar, pants on fire 😉
So anyways, here’s today’s entry for the metal sculpture! I keep looking at these things when I go to my local wine shop and LOVE them. They’re gorgeous.
‘Taters!

How fun!
I am excited to join in on this contest. I love the fun, whimsy and imagination of the metal sculptures. Wine snobs? not me! It is about fun and pleasure.

Hello Jo,
I’m in!
Good Morning Jo,
All the prizes sound and look wonderful! I really want a pair of the Masters of Petite Sirah glasses. Can you win the December contest more than once? Do you have a good contact for Riedel glasses, you can share? I want some for special tasting events at our winery.
Thanks,
Victor
Edwards Vineyard & Cellars
Jo, those glasses look great! You gave me a single glass though, with a different etching — PSILY Noble Symposium, not Masters with the crest — I assume it’s the same underlying glass, though!
Victor — Hope to see you at D&D! Wish your wine were available out east…
Loweeel, you’re right,I’m wrong. I gave you the HUGE Symposium glasses (a pair), and thought it was the Masters… so, your pants aren’t on fire… My hair is! (Oops, sorry!)
Roger, New digs on your blog. VERY nice!
Victor, I’ve had a really tough time with a Riedel rep and who’s on first, trying to get something to second, and thirdly… getting someone back to me. I’m small potatoes with my group (compared to a winery), so now I just deal directly with California Etching. They’ve got the stock and they’ve got the customer service thing going on. Tim Arnold’s the best… 707-224-9966
Bean, Good luck.
Victor, Yes, you can win more than once… Each week is a new drawing for that prize. Anyone dedicated enough to stick around for this (I think everyone will be burned out by the fifth week) deserves something for dedication.
Hi Jo,
Count me in!
Beth

Hi Jo,
Mondays entry for those PS Riedel glasses. We have rain today……Victor
Beth’s entry for Monday Dec.7
First of all, Jo, I think by virtue of the name alone – “Jo” – there’s a modicum of humor attached to it… as in “Jo”ker, so I’m not surprised with your humor. ;^)
Secondly, yes, it is a great name. I’m pleased with my parents, how about you?
Sorry about the rain, Victor. It’s cold up here, but no rain as yet. Snowed in Bay Area over night… Winter is upon us…
2.5 ” of Rain so far Jo, and it is still falling! No snow yet, but it will drop to 36 degrees tonight!…………Victor
Hi Jo,
Tuesday’s entry. What’s this I hear about snow!
Beth
Entry for this very cold Tuesday morning.
Beth,
It’s only 33 degrees here at 10:30 a.m. in lovely Sonoma County. Tomorrow, rain is predicted with 32 degrees. If memory serves me well, that’s either snow or freezing rain. I am not enjoying this, I can tell you. I left Maine for lots of reasons, cold being the most specific.
It snowed a couple of days ago in the Bay area. In my 17 years here, I’ve just not seen snow as a possibility… That said, if we have a winter in Sonoma County, it’s December, so whaddaya gonna do?
Victor,
Darn cold up here, too. Ramona Valley cold? Give me a break. You guys are close to San Diego!
Jooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!
Here I am….!!! I will pick up my prize at the D&D, see you soon…
Honey
Last entry for Wednesday 12/9 did not go through? I will submit another and try again.
38 and sunny in Ramona Valley, that’s cold for us……Victor
Victor, not to worry. I’ll count you on that day, because I know you’ve been completely committed.
About 38 up here too. Winter!
Hi Jo,
Here is my entry for Wednesday.
Beth
Good Morning Jo,
I spent most of the day yesterday working in the vineyard looking out over our local snow covered mountains, which are about 20 minutes form our vineyard and winery. Christmas is in the air, I can see it!
