My first selection this week is an Argentinian white wine: the 2006 Chusche River Vino Blanco, priced at $8.99. This wine is made from 100% Torrontes grapes. The nose was very floral; I especially noticed jasmine. Wonderful herb and citrus flavors were on the palate, accompanied by more jasmine. A clean, fresh finish balanced the wine and created for a very enjoyable summer sipper, especially at this price!

My second selection this week is the 2005 Este de Bodegas Alto Almanzora – an incredible value at $9.99. This is a Spanish red made from Monastrell and Garnacha grapes. I truly believe that this wine could stand up to wines in a much higher price point in a blind tasting. Flavors of dark red fruit, blackberry, spice, and even chocolate come together on the palate with just the right amount of oak. Balance and complexity are the two key adjectives that come to mind, here. I thoroughly enjoyed this wine with a Petite Filet, oven roasted new potatoes with rosemary, and green beans with raisins and lime. If you’re looking for a wine that will impress, without breaking the bank, go looking for this gem of a value.

Thanks again to the Asheville Wine Guy for these two great suggestions!
