Build a Better Burger Competition from Sutter Home

Want to visit Napa? It seems to be as easy as visiting their site and reading what they have to offer.

If you’re interested in winning a trip to Napa Valley through Wine & Burger University for Sutter Home’s 20th Anniversary Build a Better Burger Competition, here’s what you have to do… but read their rules first:

By taking classes at Wine & Burger University, “students” become eligible to win a trip and monthly giveaways. At Wine & Burger University, students can:

  • Watch videos on grilling tips for how to create the perfect burger patty or select the best bun
  • Learn new wine facts like why wine bottles are stored horizontally instead of vertically
  • Enter to win a trip for two to Napa Valley this September to experience Sutter Home’s 20th Anniversary Build a Better Burger Competition in person
  • Become eligible for their monthly giveaway (This month it’s a KitchenAid mixer.)

The Wine & Burger University has tips and videos for everyone, from the beginner chef wanting to test his or her new grill, to the people who are just curious to learn something about wine that they didn’t know before.

Seems like fun… I love passing Sutter Home as I travel through Napa Valley. If you’ve not been there yet, this may be your opportunity!

Sadly, Sutter Home began excluding Californians from the competition back in 1999. Sutter Home claims Californians are excluded to comply with CA Dept of ABC rules and regulations. Oddly, the bigwigs I talked with at the ABC say Sutter Home’s stance is nonsense, the contest is illegal period, violating business code 25600 and ABC rule 106. I was also told that the industry’s political contributions help grease the laws that get written and amended, and Sutter Home is largely responsible for the exclusion of California residents. I don’t know whether the Better Burger contest is illegal, I just report on what I found: http://johnonwine.com/2010/06/21/is-sutter-home-winerys-build-a-better-burger-contest-illegal/
